Schedule 2 includes opiates (e.g. diamorphine hydrochloride (heroin), morphine, methadone hydrochloride, oxycodone hydrochloride, pethidine hydrochloride), major stimulants (e.g. amfetamines), quinalbarbitone (secobarbital), cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis-based products for medicinal use in humans.
Seconal was once prescribed for the treatment of insomnia and as a pre-anesthetic before surgery; however, it is no longer available in the United States. The medical use of barbiturate medications has largely been replaced by benzodiazepine medications, such as Xanax or Ativan.
Is secobarbital an anti seizure medication?
Secobarbital is indicated to treat epilepsy, temporary treatment of insomnia, and as a preoperative medication to produce anesthesia and anxiolysis in short-term surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures that are only minimally painful.
